Gifts for nurses and hospital volunteers, personalized with their own photo. A bedpan held out at arm's length, a mop in the other hand, a skeleton in a nurse's cap supervising, and two patients waiting with no intention of being patient. A real face on the volunteer who drew the short straw. Upload a photo and it becomes the mug that gets brought up every time she walks on the ward.

For the candy striper on the ward, or the one who grew up to run it. Good for the end of a placement, a volunteer thank you, National Volunteer Week in April, starting nursing school, or a retirement that began in a red and white pinafore fifty years ago.

How it works

Upload one photo. The background comes off automatically and the face drops into the design, sitting behind the collar so the join never shows and their own hair stays on.

Pictures taken on a phone are always big enough - phone cameras shoot around 3000 x 4000 pixels and we need a minimum size of 1000 x 1000. Pick a clear, well lit one where the face is not small in the frame, and use the original from the camera roll rather than a copy forwarded through a messaging app, which gets shrunk.

A daft face beats a neat one. The joke is the mismatch between the expression and the job in hand.
